Brenda Lawson Brown Scholarship Fund - Deadline: April 1, 2016
The Howard University Alumni Association Brenda Lawson Brown Scholarship Fund was established by the Howard University Alumni Association (HUAA) for the purpose of
giving financial support to Howard University (HU) undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need and meet academic requirements. The fund is named in honor of
the late Brenda Lawson Brown who gave many years of devoted service to Howard University, the Department of Alumni Affairs, and the Howard University Alumni
The fund is administered by the following guidelines:
1. Only current Howard University undergraduate students with all parts of a completed application received by the stated deadline will be considered.
2. A non-renewable scholarship up to $5,000.00 will be granted to an undergraduate student to be used during the fall semester of 2016.
3. “Financial Need” is a priority in the selection process. Students must have a completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file with the Howard University Office of Financial Aid and Student Employment indicating eligibility and approval for federal and/or other financial assistance.
4. The applicant must have a minimum grade point average of 2.75 after completion of courses through fall 2015. Also, the applicant must and be in good standing with the University at the time the application is submitted and when the scholarship is awarded.
5. Letter of Recommendation (1) – One letter of recommendation is required from an
individual who is familiar with your educational, professional, and service background.
(Please note that recommendation may NOT come from relatives. Appropriate references
include teachers and professors, community and social service professionals, religious
leaders, supervisors, etc.). Letters of recommendations should be either placed in a sealed
envelope with the recommender’s signature across the seal and included in your application package or sent directly to the selection committee in the same manner for receipt by the
